Lubbock Economic Development Alliance’s COVID-19 Response
The Lubbock Economic Development Alliance urges citizens to shop local, follow guidelines set by local leaders and continue to take precautions.
Due to the evolution of the Coronavirus and the multi-faceted impacts to economic development and the travel industry the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance (LEDA) is closely monitoring news reports, official websites and CDC updates regarding the COVID-19. Additionally, we are working closely with the Mayor’s office, as well as industry associations. In response, we have created this resource regarding suggested best practices concerning the coronavirus situation. We assure you that we are working to stay informed. Please check back often, as we will update with timely information and additional links.
Throughout the past two weeks, the City of Lubbock has held press conferences to update citizens on the city’s preparations to combat the virus. Katherine Wells, director of public health for the City of Lubbock, has encouraged community members and visitors to be vigilant when taking precautions to protect the health of yourself and those around you. These include:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- Stay home when you are sick
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then properly dispose
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
While Lubbock currently has 14 confirmed cases of COVID-19, it is important for residents to continue to take precautions and make sure they are equipped with updated information. We assure you with the proper preparation and care, your business in our city will not be affected long term.
We recognize the potential impacts of COVID-19 on our business climate is unpredictable. However, the businesses, citizens, and economy of Lubbock remain resilient and strong. During difficult times we must remember to continue to support local businesses in our community. We encourage you to shop locally when possible and to support the guidance and directives issued by our community leadership.
Nothing is more important to us than the safety of our community and the economic prosperity of businesses in our great city. Make no mistake, Lubbock is still open for business and all of us at LEDA are working to combat the negative economic impacts of this virus.
Due to the evolving nature of COVID-19 and the multi-faceted impacts on economic development, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has extended eligibility of Economic Injury Disaster Loans, which will provide long-term, low-interest loans to qualifying businesses throughout the state of Texas.
