Why Manufacturing?

What this Industry Brings to Lubbock

From Texas Tech to Buddy Holly, Lubbock is known for many different things. But you might not be familiar with everything that comes out of the Hub City, thanks to our booming manufacturing industry. Not only does this make Lubbock a solid base across several sectors, but it also brings a lot of benefits to the city and local economy.

Workforce

Manufacturing has strengthened Lubbock’s workforce in many ways. When a manufacturer like Leprino Foods opens here, it brings many jobs to the city. This opens doors for Lubbock citizens looking for a new role or starting their careers and may even attract new residents to pursue these opportunities. This industry also provides a wide variety of jobs. Positions range from corporate roles to hands-on work, all of which keep the manufacturer running.

New Dollars

Primary manufacturing jobs support secondary jobs in the community. This happens through spending on eating out, shopping and even major purchases like a car or a home. Rather than recirculating the same dollars throughout Lubbock, primary jobs bring in new dollars and boost the local economy.

Manufacturing operations also provide a powerful property and sales tax base, and those dollars are used to improve public infrastructure, municipal services and school districts.

Economic Resiliance

Manufacturing not only strengthens the local economy in the ways mentioned above, but it also builds resilience. Having locally manufactured products, especially those that serve different sectors, can ease the impact of supply chain bottlenecks. This happens by reducing heavy reliance on imports, which can make economies vulnerable due to challenges like trade disputes and other international conflicts.

Overall, the manufacturing industry also helps diversify the local economy. Having a variety of strong sectors is important for Lubbock because if one industry, such as agriculture, education or healthcare, experiences hardships, manufacturing can help lift the local economy.

This is why the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance works to bring a wide array of businesses to our city. We want to foster success and growth, not only for commerce but for the entire community.
