The Dutch House of Plants: A Dutch Legacy in Texas Soil
Nestled in the heart of Lubbock, Texas, The Dutch House of Plants is a family-run plant boutique with a touch of Dutch Heritage. Owned and operated by mother-daughter duo Ellen and Chelsea Kidder, this nursery is more than just a place to buy plants – it’s a destination where friendships blossom, knowledge grows and dreams take root.
The Genesis of The Dutch House of Plants
Born and raised in Holland, Ellen has lived in Lubbock for 30 years. She moved to the United States at 22 to work as a physical therapist and never dreamed she’d stay. That is, until she met her husband in Lubbock, Texas, and never left.
“My husband is very Texan, so for him to move to Europe, that would not have been a good idea,” Ellen said. “We considered moving to Austin but you always come back to Lubbock. I like it here, so we decided to stay.”
Chelsea grew up in Lubbock and returned after completing school at the University of Houston. Armed with over 10 years of experience in the plant industry and a shared passion for plants, Ellen and Chelsea established The Dutch House of Plants in April 2023.
Classes, Workshops & a Plant Lover’s Book Club: Nurturing Green Thumbs, Friendships & Lifelong Learning

Some of their most popular classes include:

From informative discussions to interactive workshops, these gatherings offer a unique opportunity to deepen your connection with nature and like-minded individuals.
The Future of The Dutch House of Plants: Growing Greener Together
As The Dutch House of Plants continues flourishing, Ellen and Chelsea are committed to expanding. Plans for enhanced class options, innovative events and more unique plants are on the horizon. If you are looking to start a new hobby, take a fun class with friends, explore a beautiful shop, or add to your already lush plant collection, Dutch House of Plants is for you. Check them out here!
We considered moving to Austin but you always come back to Lubbock.
