ABOUT LUBBOCK

ADVICE
Navigating college life can be challenging, but you’re not alone. Here are a few pieces of advice from past & current college students to help make the most of your college in the 806!
-Join at least 2 organizations during your first semester. One in your college and one that interests you. Go to the very first meeting.
– TTU Rec classes. Sunrise cycle, yoga, etc. They’re free to attend
– TTU athletic groups. Running club, powerlifting, wrestling, swim, etc.
– Introduce yourself to your professors first or second day of class. It may feel awkward but it’s ALWAYS worth it
– Don’t be afraid to make new friends.

To the big city kids moving to Lubbock. Go out and explore there’s so much more to this town than you might think. As someone who grew up in a big metroplex, I moved here fixated on it being a small, boring town with not much to do. But after living in Lubbock for the past three and a half years, I can assure you it’s been anything but boring. Go out and explore, go and look into those hidden gems throughout Lubbock, make those fun and exciting memories. Living beyond what I’ve always known has given me a refreshing break from big city life, something you might not realize you need until you experience it.

My advice would be to take pride in your studies, but to also understand that college presents learning experiences outside of the classroom that can help you in your professional career. I think developing social skills and learning how to communicate properly with people is an underrated concept that employers look for after school.
