Rooted in Truth

The Journey of Veritas and Its Impact on Lubbock’s Wellness Landscape

When Dr. Ben Edwards moved to West Texas nearly two decades ago, he didn’t plan on becoming a pioneer in holistic healthcare. His dream was simple: to follow in the footsteps of his grandfathers, old school physicians who cared for entire communities with dedication and heart. That desire led him first to Post, Texas, and ultimately to Lubbock, where Veritas Medical and Veritas Wellness now serve individuals and businesses across the region and the country.

Today, Veritas stands as a fast-growing, education-centered health organization whose mission is reflected in its name. The name Veritas is Latin for “truth”, and the community has taken notice of the difference they are making. Dr. Edwards was recently awarded the 2025 Defender of the Year award from the Children’s Health Defense for this work, navigating the challenging measles outbreak in Garza County.

A Calling That Became a Movement

Dr. Edwards’ journey began traditionally enough. He received his undergraduate degree from Baylor, graduated from UT Houston Medical School, and completed his residency in Waco, but what happened in the small town of Post reshaped his understanding of medicine entirely.

While practicing as the county’s only doctor, Dr. Edwards encountered a patient case that changed everything: the reversal of celiac disease through natural methods. What followed was a year-long period of learning, questioning, and witnessing more patient improvements that conventional training had never prepared him for. Those experiences opened the door to a new philosophy. The body is designed to heal when given what it needs – nutrition, movement, hydration, and peace.

Guided by this belief, Veritas Medical was born in 2012. With only a used desk, two chairs, and a borrowed room costing $100 a month, Dr. Edwards began seeing patients who soon turned into long waiting lists because of his two-hour, root-cause-focused appointments.

A Mission That Resonates Across the Business Community
As Veritas expanded, its message began resonating with local employers who were seeking solutions for rising healthcare costs. Through Veritas Wellness, the company now offers corporate wellness programs that teach employees the actionable foundations of health, often improving both quality of life and a company’s bottom line.

Local businesses that have worked with Veritas include:
PickUp Pals
– Lone Star Well
– Betenbough Homes

In addition, Dr. Edwards has spoken to employee groups at organizations such as Citibank, offering education on root-cause health, diabetes reversal, and autoimmune conditions, all of which are issues that represent some of the highest healthcare expenditures for employers nationwide. The openness of the Lubbock business community has allowed Veritas to bring practical wellness tools to workplaces across the region, reinforcing Lubbock’s reputation as a city that values innovation and employee well-being.

The Future of Veritas: Education at Scale
While Veritas Medical continues to treat symptoms with compassion using both pharmaceutical and nutraceutical tools, the future of the company is clearly rooted in education. Veritas Wellness, the online group-based educational arm, has exploded in growth. With online courses and coaching now reaching all 50 states and six countries, Dr. Edwards’s mission is expanding far beyond West Texas.

His vision is simple: empower people with the knowledge to prevent disease, reduce dependence on medication, and take stewardship of their bodies.

A Lubbock Story of Faith, Family, Innovation, and Community Support
Veritas’s story reflects the spirit of Lubbock – entrepreneurial, values-driven, grounded in community, and willing to chart a new path when the old one no longer serves. What started as one doctor with a laptop, a borrowed office, and a conviction that patients deserved more has become a multi-location, multi-state wellness movement headquartered right here in Lubbock.

As Veritas continues to grow, its roots – truth, compassion, education, and the belief in the body’s God-designed ability to heal – remain firmly planted in West Texas soil. And Lubbock’s supportive business culture ensures those roots will only deepen.
